Celebrate and educate, 200 glorious years of rail in the United Kingdom.
Friday 12 – Sunday 14 September 2025
The East Lancashire Railway has always worked towards one simple goal, to keep the past alive.
We believe that it is our duty to keep the fires stoked on one of the most monumental aspects of our nation’s history; the advent of steam rail.
To celebrate this story, we’ll be running several steam and diesel passenger trains, including one hauled by Furness Railway No.20, the oldest working steam locomotive in the country. We’ll also be allowing visitors onto the cab of certain locos, view demonstrations, speak with crews and interact with characters from railway history. Everything finishes with an original theatrical performance at Bury Transport Museum!
Saturday 13 – Sunday 14 September – Hands on History
Scheduled services featuring locomotives Furness Railway No.20, 11456, 34092 “City of Wells”, Class 24 D5054, D7076 “Hymek” and 832 “Onslaught”.
Climb into the cab of “City of Wells” and get a new perspective on these incredible machines. Speak with the crew and maybe even get to blow the whistle!
Meet and interact with historical figures on board the train and at Bury Transport Museum.
See the power of L&Y Pug 1097/1910 as she runs demonstrations at Bury Transport Museum. Get up close to the locomotive and speak to the crew.
